C/O Berlin: Queerness in Photography

Shared with us by Jonny Tiernan of LOLA Mag, we’d like to point you towards Queerness in Photography at C/O Berlin. It is a photographic representation of identity, gender and sexuality in three complementary exhibitions.  From historical footage, to contemporary forms of expression, the three exhibitions reveal a “multifaceted panorama and show that photography can also be an act of liberation and self-empowerment”. The first exhibition is Under Cover. A Secret History of Cross-Dressers a collection by French director and filmmaker Sébastien Lifshitz. Then there is the Cindy Sherman Collection showing original photographs of Casa Susanna, arguably the world’s most famous artist of disguise. And finally Orlando, curated by Tilda Swinton, which showcases works created especially for the show, and others that present various perspectives on questions of identity, gender, origin, and sexuality.

Festival of Lights

Definitely a local favourite, and it’s FREE! The Festival of Light brings Berlin together to marble at the incredible light projections that illuminate the city. This year the motto is: Visions of our Future. And around 70 locations are expected to become works of light art this year including the Bode Museum, Bebelplatz, the Berliner Dom, the TV Tower, Oberbaum Bridge, the Victory Column, Charlottenburg Palace and more! So bundle up and take a walk between 7pm and midnight every day of the festival to see something quite magnificent.

Solar Eclipse in Berlin

If you’re as obsessed with the night sky as we are then you’ll be excited to know that there is a partial solar eclipse happening in Berlin this autumn. At its peak (at 12:13pm) a good 32% of the sun will be covered. The moon will slowly move in front of the sun from 11:09 am and then a precise 2 hours and 9 minutes later, the sun will shine through again. Cool, right!?

Now – October 29

Spreewiesn Oktoberfest

Can’t get to Munich but keen to get your Fest on? There is actually a version of Oktoberfest happening in your city right now! Just a short walk from Ostbahnhof station, you can get your paws on glass steins full of Löwenbräu beer, tasty bratwursts, pork knuckles, half roast chickens, pretzels and other traditional delicacies. There is even an original Bavarian band that plays live music while you run around in your Dirndl or Lederhosen.

28 – 30 October

Legally Blonde – The Musical

Support your local theater! “What, like it’s hard!?”

It isn’t hard! The Musical Theater Society Berlin is putting on a musical production of our favourite blonde, Elle Woods – the fashion-savvy, UCLA sorority girl who finds her life turned upside down when she is dumped by her boyfriend Warner. If you somehow don’t know the story; in an effort to prove to Warner that she is more than just some blonde sorority girl, she follows him to Harvard Law…want to know how her story ends? Buy tickets to the show! Our lady on the inside can also confirm that there are puppy actors and we’ve never known anything more glorious.
